MAKING COLORED MATERIALS

If we want to color the base material, we add a pigment that has selective absorption and scattering. In the case of red, we are absorbing the violet, blue, green, yellow and orange light and allowing the red light to be scattered and reflected out of the material, so that what we see is the red color.

In the green color, we are absorbing the violet, blue, yellow, orange and red light and scattering the green light. The observer "sees" the material as green.

In the blue material, we add a colorant that absorbs the violet, green, yellow, orange and red light, and we now see and judge this material to be blue.
