Portability - Size and ease of use makes the PCM a unique field & factory unit. Simple, low cost, standard 9 volt batteries make field use practical. Grading Software - The PCM can be used as a food grading tool. Simply, measure examples of the various grades of the material and store in ColorSoft®-QCW software, assign meaningful grading terms of up to 14 alpha numeric characters such as Fancy, Standard, etc., upload to the memory of your instrument and select the closest standard as the default option. Now when you measure a sample the display will show the closest color name and display the grading term associated with that color!

Cleanability - The PCM with the 12mm or 20mm sapphire window easily cleaned with a soft cloth, distilled water and glass cleaner. While the instrument is not immersible, the large doughnut shaped aperture can be removed for cleaning. Oily foods can be covered with plastic film and powders can be measured using clear sample bags. Just be sure to use plastic film and bags from the same manufacturer to assure consistency of film color, clarity and thickness.

Ruggedness - With no moving parts and stable optics and computer components, the PCM is operationally secure. The case is ABS, the same polymer system used to make most cellular phones and other roughly handled consumer items.
